Our Bay of Plenty 'Top 10' Cruising Menu
The Social Flotilla's home branch is in the beautiful Bay of Plenty, so to start off, we've popped some destination ideas that embark from Tauranga. As we expand to other NZ sailing regions our 'Cruising Menu' will grow as well!
1 - Harbour Day Trips
Set course for a secluded bay to drop anchor and go ashore to picnic and explore the beach. Make sure you bring you fishing gear, paddle boards and other toys. Treat your friends and family!
2 - Rafting Up
Sail to a local spot to 'raft up' and enjoy a special 'mix and mingle' social affair amidst a fun loving group of skippers and crew who know how to make the most of a few spare hours to burn.
3 - Sandbar Cricket
Summer time family picnic and a game of cricket on our large, low-tide sand bar in the middle of our beautiful Tauranga Harbour. Cricket skills are not necessary but having buckets of fun is!
4 - Sunset Harbour Cruise
The 'golden hour' is something to behold, inspiring many a photograph and painting. Back at the marina gather on one of the boats to have an evening nosh-up and plan your next cruise.
5 - Nighttime Harbour Cruise
Something very special about night navigation, and a good opportunity for the less experienced to gain confidence sailing with seasoned salty dogs. Enjoy a night cap back at the marina.
6 - Coastal Day Trips
Venture out of the harbour into our coastal ocean waters. Head to Karewa or other close islands and flex your bluewater sailing skills in the company and safety of a small cruising fleet.
7 - Local Bluewater Overnighter
Explore further along the coast either north to Mayor Island, Whangamata or east to Whale Island and other coastal spots. Anchor in a sheltered harbour and sleep under the stars.
8 - Longer Cruising Adventures
Head to Auckland, Whangerei or all the way up to the Bay of Islands. Meet up with other yachts on the way and experience some of the very best sailing that New Zealand offers.
9 - South Pacific Islands & Beyond
If you fancy a leisurely sail to the paradise waters of the South Pacific Islands, then our Members Lounge is a great place to chat and co-create your ideal South Pacific cruising adventure.
