Our Mission is Simple:
To bring together yacht owners and their crews for more social cruising adventures!
As co-founders of The Social Flotilla, we remain loyal members of our local yacht clubs, who do a wonderful job offering many learn-to-sail and racing programmes.
But we also see a need to reach out to the many boat owners who are not club members.
So this new cruising community mingles non-members with members in the spirit of creating more inclusive cruising events around our different sailing regions, starting in our home waters of the Bay of Plenty.
Cheers,
Doug Harrison & Elisha McCarty
Meet the Creators
Doug & Elisha

Doug Harrison
Mount Manganui Yacht Club
Now a lifetime member, Doug has been key to the development and success of The Mount Maunganui Yacht Club and The Legends Regatta.
From an early start sailing a Cherub dinghy, he then moved on to a Birdsal 38' keeler before building his current cruising catamaran ‘Wizzard', a Tim Clissold 12.5 design.
Doug has also supported the TYPBC’s Women on Water (WOW) sailing programme and continues to race with The Mount Yacht Club.
He now turns his love of sailing to the development of The Social Flotilla - a new inclusive NZ cruising community, starting with the Bay of Plenty where he, wife Linda and family are based.
Elisha McCarty
Tauranga Yacht & Power Boat Club
Elisha shares her editorial, design and photography skills with the TYPBC, and serves on the Keeler Committee and Race Officials Team. She sails on large keelers and catamarans, loves to helm and sails a Hansa dinghy.
She also manages the media for Sailability Tauranga, promoting their adaptive sailing programme for sailors living with disability.
Elisha sails in the TYPBC 'Women On Water' (WOW) Series, and has lead the women's crew on 'Wizzard' for WOW and the Mount Winter Series.
She's keen to bring club members and non club members together, and is happy to share the benefits of club membership with those who may be interested.
